Centre of Fashion Design and Technology - Visit to Cottage Industries,Varanasi
A one day Varanasi visit was organize for the students of first year BAFD, ADFD & CAFD to give them a hands on experience of the working of cottage industries situated in Bhitari Village , Lohta, Varanasi.

The tour started at 8.30am from Allahabad and reached the destination at 12.00pm. Students interacted with the silk weavers and developed an understanding of the processes of weaving. The group visited three industries and learnt about various types of power looms. The computerized finishing machine was one of the major highlights. On the cutting machine students saw how fibers are transformed into a beautiful fabric.

The students envisaged great deal of interest in learning about the issues plaguing the once thriving Banarasi silk industry such as the flooding of market with cheaper Chinese imitation silk, lack of government incentives, non-availability of dedicated power supply and other issues related to market dynamics.

The students then went to visit the museum at Sarnath maintained by ASI to understand the historical significance of the place and the maintenance of this monument by ASI.

After visiting the museum students proceeded to visit the Sarnath temple There are many Buddhist monuments and edifices in Sarnath. Some of the important Buddhist monuments at Sarnath are the Dhamekha stupa, the Chaukhandi stupa and monasteries and temples of different schools of Buddhism from Japan, China, Thailand, Burma and others. The Indian Buddhist society called Mahabodhi Society maintains a park around the Buddha temple. The Mahabodhi Temple within the park has a tooth relic of the Buddha.

Having spent the entire day at Varanasi, the group prepared for their hometown enriched, refreshed and full of zeal at around 5.30pm and reached Allahabad at close to 8.30pm.

Centre of Media Studies - Visit to Makhanlal University, Bhopal

Students of Centre of Media studies visited Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal, under inter-university students exchange programme. The students and teachers of the two universities discussed various efforts being made to better teaching and learning in the field of journalism and mass communication. They also shared their own experiences. Addressing the delegation the vice chancellor of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, B K Kuthiala urged the budding journalists to work hard to meet the challenges being faced by journalism today. Students also visited museum of news papers "Sapre Sangrahalaya", Bharat Bhawan, Museum of Man, Tribal Museum and the House and Museum of renowned hindi poet Dushyant Kumar.

Centre of Food Technology - Visit to CFTRI, Mysore to attend 7th International Food Convention (IFCON 2013) NSURE - HEALTHY FOODS
A team of 16 members consisting of three faculty members, Dr. Neetu Mishra, Dr. Devinder Kaur and Dr. Satya Kumar Chauhan along with 13 students of MSc. Nutritional Sciences, IV Semester participated in the conference. This conference was jointly organized by CSIR- Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore, India, DRDO-Defence Food Research Laboratory, Mysore, NIFTEM-National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management, Kundli, Haryana, AFSTI- Association of Food Scientists & Technologists (India) & MoFPI- Ministry of Food Processing Industries from 18th-21st December 2013 at CFTRI Campus, Mysore, India.

Curtain Raiser - plenary talks had been delivered by Dr. Ram Rajsekharan (Director CFTRI) on "Novel foods: A food for thought" and by Dr. John Ruff on "The challenges in assuring food safety and security: A global perspective" The team had presented posters in different sections. Dr. Neetu Mishra won the Best Poster Award for her research work titled "Abelmoschus esculentus (Okra) extract", may provide protection against oxidative stress in type 2 diabetic erythrocytes

An educational visit to "Indian Institute of Carpet Technology, Bhadohi"
Classes: II semester of B.A in Fashion Design & Technology; II semester of Two Year Advance Diploma in Fashion Design & Technology; II semester of Two Year Advance Diploma in Computer Aided Fashion Design
Purpose of visit:
  • To get hands on experience of the various procedures involved in carpet making.
  • To increase the practical know how of our students in the field of textile (spinning, weaving, dyeing & chemical processing).
  • Explore IICT, Bhadohi library for the books useful for our course curriculum

The Indian Institute of Carpet Technology popularly known as IICT, the only of its kind in Asia, has been set up by Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India to provide much needed support to Textile, Carpet and allied Industries. The Institute is affiliated to U.P. Technical University, Lucknow. The Institute is equipped with latest machines, plants, looms and other infrastructure for running the courses.

Students were divided into groups and taken to different sections, under the guidance of the faculty members of IICT. Various steps involved in the making of carpets were explained to them in detail. The students were also given a tour of various custom-designed machines used in the carpet making industry.

IICT's Units Visited:

Physical lab:

Learnt a lot about fiber, yarn and fabric identification and properties.

Chemical lab:

Fiber and fabric dyeing, chemical properties of different fabrics, yarns n fibers , were explored.

Carpet & home textile designing department. :

Floor covering design, design digitization were explained.


Explored for design & other useful resource material for our institute.

Spinning work shop:

Yarn manufacturing process, different machineries of the yarn manufacturing process sequence were seen,

Weaving workshop:

Learnt about Handloom & power loom parts and its working, and got a precise idea of the textile designing.

Dyeing Laboratory:

learnt about different dyeing methods and machineries
